Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the first instalment of Rs 540 crore to one lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) rural housing scheme. PM-JANMAN, launched for the socio-economic welfare of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), aims to improve their conditions by providing basic facilities like safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, education, health, electricity.
Medi Assist earns 3-3.5% fees on the insurance premiums serviced by it. For FY23, the company earned nearly 75% of its revenues from group insurance schemes - the fastest growing segment in health insurance - and roughly 11% each from retail and government-sponsored schemes.
Further, as on date, approximately 14.6 crore Ayushman cards have been created for women. "The scheme is striving to achieve gender parity along with regional parity and income parity in access to healthcare services with 49 per cent Ayushman cards issued to women beneficiaries. Also, 48 per cent of treatment provided under the scheme has been availed by women; thus, gender equity is part of core design of the scheme," the ministry stated.
"Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal to launch a group (term) insurance scheme for Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs) engaged by Border Roads Organisation/General Reserve Engineer Force for the ongoing project works," it said in a statement on Saturday.
The government is also expected to give final shape to the Insurance Amendment Bill, which is slated to be introduced in the next financial year, paving the way for strategic reforms in the sector, the people said, adding that some of the key announcements made during the second term of the Modi government, including the privatisation of two state-run banks and one general insurance firm, are expected to get going in 2024-25.

These tribes stay in scattered, remote and inaccessible habitations, often in forest areas and hence the mission has been planned to saturate PVTG families and habitations with basic facilities such as road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition, and sustainable livelihood opportunities, they said.
